The recent devastating earthquakes in Haiti, Chile, and China and the resulting Chile tsunami, along with the 2007 bridge collapse in Minnesota, underscore the need for preventative mitigation and restoration efforts for these countries, and for the many high-rise office buildings, condos, apartment buildings, and other major buildings and complexes in the U.S. and elsewhere in the world that may be in danger of collapse - partial or total - in the event of an earthquake, severe storm, tsunami, or other natural or human-generated stress.
